With the start of a brand new school year, some things are bound to change. One of which, in this case, is the Dublin High School bell schedule.
One of the most significant differences in this year’s schedule is the day of the monthly Grady Days. Grady Days are a term for days where Dublin High School has rallies or assemblies designed to educate students, promote school spirit, and highlight the diverse nature of the school. For the past couple of years, Grady Days were consistently held on Fridays, but starting this school year, the event has been moved to Wednesdays. In addition, the basic bell schedule has gone as follows: second period, the rally, fourth period, lunch, and lastly, sixth period. However, this year, the format of a typical Grady Day goes as follows: second period, the rally, lunch, fourth period, and lastly sixth period. The change in lunch time being after the rally is a new change, and could potentially help students feel less drained throughout the day
Regarding the weekday change in the Grady Day schedule, Principal Byrne mentioned that feedback indicated, “while the community liked the content, it was very difficult to add an hour to Fridays.” Additionally, she stated that having Grady Days on Wednesday would serve as an informational/inspiration break mid-week, which would be beneficial to faculty and students alike.
Another change in this year’s DHS bell schedule is the end times on odd block days and Wednesdays. Specifically, Tuesdays and Thursdays now end 2 minutes earlier than before, and Wednesdays end 5 minutes earlier. However, in order to accommodate these earlier dismissals, lunch times on those particular days have been shortened. As explained by Principal Byrne, these changes were due to common frustration of the different end times kept since the start of block schedule. This new schedule, which was preferred by 85% of the staff who answered a poll, has the same end time for Mondays, Tuesdays, Grady Day Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
