Irish Guard Competes at IHS

Last weekend, the Dublin Irish Guard attended the Independence High School Field Show Competition. The Irish Guard performed their field show titled Dreams of Flying based of the Wright brothers dream of building a flying machine. The show features the building of the wright brothers plane as the band plays musical pieces at paces both fast and slow and the color guard demonstrates their elegant routine.
There were a total of 15 bands competing in the competition and 4 bands competing in the AAAA division (including Dublin High school.) They competed against Oak Grove High School, Valley Christian High School, and Santa Teresa High School.
The Irish Guard arrived at the school at 11:00 to practice their performance and left the school for Independence High School before 5:00. Once they arrived, they rehearsed their music for a few more hours before performing for the judges on the football field at around 8:05. Their performance went very well and while Dublin High did receive 4th place in their division for their overall performance, they obtained 1st place for their their percussion’s performance in their division. This was an especially exciting victory for the Irish Guard because it was the first time they were awarded first place for anything in field show competition.
This was the Irish Guards 4th competition of the season, as the also competed at Chabot college and Foothill High School as well our own Dublin High school. They’ve been practicing their show since August before school started and have had rehearsals almost every Wednesday night and Saturday morning until afternoon. They have worked extremely hard to make their show what it is now.
The Irish Guard will be competing again at James Logan High School this weekend as well. It will be their final completion of the season, and they will be competing against 8 other bands. Wish them the best of luck at their last competition and look forward to finding out more about their results next week.
