As the school year comes to a close, many of Dublin High’s student athletes have received the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) “Of the nearly eight million students currently participating in high school athletics in the United States, only 480,000 will advance to play within a higher Division.”

At Dublin High, Division 1 and 2 athletes had signing days to commemorate their hard work and commit to attending their given institution full-time for one academic year. Mr. Scarpelli, Dublin High’s Athletic Director, stated these signing days were set to “honor the accomplishment of those blessed to receive a scholarship or aid at the D1 and D2 level” and “in a manner as outlined by the NLI.” Mr. Scarpelli stressed the importance of preserving the integrity of the National Letter of Intent (NLI), a binding agreement between prospective student-athletes and NLI member institutions, while still ensuring athlete’s receive proper recognition for their achievements. Athletes who didn’t sign a NLI had a separate celebration on May 17 with family and friends, as displayed on Dublin High’s athletic website. We wish all of these students continued success as they move forward with their athletic careers.
