As the festive season approaches, trying out new baking recipes is the best way to celebrate! Whether these are made for late night snacks, hangouts with friends, or Christmas dinner with family, these treats are bound to impress and keep the cravings at bay. Here are a couple of sweet treats that will get you into the winter spirit!
First up is a classic Christmas sweet: peppermint bark. To make this treat, melt white chocolate and milk chocolate in separate bowls. Then, spread the milk chocolate on a pan and keep it in the freezer. Once it’s solid, spread the white chocolate on top of the dried milk chocolate. Crush peppermints and spread the shavings over the melted white chocolate. Don’t forget to freeze the pan again and wait until it’s dry. Lastly, split the bark into pieces and enjoy!
Next up is a drink that will keep you warm for hours: hot chocolate. Melt milk chocolate in a bowl and heat a half cup of milk over the stove. Once the milk is hot, pour the melted milk chocolate in the pan and stir. The mixture will become brown and will have a uniform consistency. Carefully pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Don’t forget the marshmallows!
Another easy treat to make is peppermint fudge. Melt milk chocolate and condensed milk in a saucepan on medium heat for five to seven minutes. After stirring, prepare the pan you will be using by greasing it with oil or parchment paper. Once the chocolate and condensed milk are fully melted and mixed, pour them into the pan. Crush some peppermints and spread it over the fudge. Place the pan into the refrigerator for 2 hours or until the fudge hardens.
If none of those have satisfied your sweet tooth, then get ready to make some oreo truffles! You will need a pack of oreo cookies, cream cheese at room temperature, peppermints, and milk chocolate. Add the oreos into a food processor and crush them until they form small chunks. Then, add the cream cheese to the food processor and blend until the ingredients combine to form a paste. Roll this mixture into balls and place them in a pan lined with parchment paper. Chill them in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. In the meantime, melt the milk chocolate and crush the peppermints. Use a fork to dip each truffle into the milk chocolate. Finally, add some flair and flavor with peppermint bits and set the truffles back into the refrigerator for 30 minutes, or until the chocolate hardens.
Last but not least, for the perfect late night snack, make a mocha mug cake! Mix three tablespoons of all purpose flour, three tablespoons of sugar, two tablespoons of cocoa powder, one teaspoon of espresso powder, one-fourth teaspoon of baking powder, and one-fourth teaspoon of salt into a microwave-safe mug. Stir this mixture with a fork before adding three tablespoons of milk, three tablespoons of vegetable oil, one-fourth teaspoon of vanilla extract, and three tablespoons of chocolate chips. Stir the mixture until there are no lumps in your mug. Microwave this for one minute and fifteen seconds to one minute and thirty seconds to allow the cake to fully bake. You can check if it is ready by inserting a toothpick into the cake and checking to see if there is batter on it when it comes out. Let the cake cool for 2-3 minutes before digging in!
