Are you bored of watching the same cliché plots unfold in those typical Hallmark movies? This is a problem that plagues many Christmas-movie fanatics come every holiday season. Why watch a Christmas movie about a city girl and a hometown boy when you have already seen at least fifteen of the same kind? After facing this problem myself, I decided to create a weekly calendar for watching Christmas movies this holiday season, which is specifically catered towards students with busy schedules.
The Nightmare Before Christmas and Christmas with the Kranks are two blockbuster movies that are perfect for kicking off the first week of December. The Nightmare Before Christmas mixes both Halloween and Christmas themes, making it the perfect transition movie. Christmas with the Kranks is a comedy about a couple who decide to skip Christmas. This lighthearted film will lift your spirits and, perhaps, even help with any seasonal depression.
“I watched The Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time last year and I’ve never loved a Christmas movie more. It incorporated Halloween and Christmas, two of my favorite holidays, which is why I think I enjoyed the movie so much,” commented Medha Bhupathiraju, a junior at Dublin High.
As Christmas inches closer, The Grinch and The Nutcracker are two movies you can watch during the second week of December. The Grinch is a famous Christmas movie about a Christmas-hating creature living a lonely life on top of a mountain. The Nutcracker follows Christmas toys who come to life and set out to defeat the evil Mouse King. Both movies share a common theme: evil villains with nefarious plans to ruin Christmas.
As we roll into the third week of December, two movies you can watch are The Christmas Chronicles and The Polar Express. The Christmas Chronicles is a comedy about two children who capture Santa and help him save Christmas. This classic often evokes feelings of nostalgia, rendering it a fan-favorite. The Polar Express is a blast-from-the-past movie about a boy who journeys to the North Pole on the Polar Express, hoping to rekindle his belief in Santa Claus. These two movies will get you reminiscing about the holiday seasons that you experienced as a child!
And, as for the last week of December, Elf and Home Alone are great movies to watch. Elf is about a child who is accidentally transported to the North Pole and is raised by the elves. This action-packed movie has a unique plot, making it an exciting addition to your watch list this winter break. Last but not least, we can’t forget Home Alone! Home Alone is a film about a boy who gets stranded at home during the holidays while the rest of his family vacations in Paris. This familiar holiday favorite will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face, making it the best movie to end the holiday season with.
So, snuggle up with a mug of hot chocolate and set those Hallmark movies aside. With this perfectly curated list of action-packed, heartwarming films, you’re guaranteed to have a memorable holiday season this year!
