Dublin High’s 11th Annual Dublin Distance Fiesta

On Saturday, March 17th, the Dublin High School track and field team  organized its 11th annual Dublin Distance Fiesta. The Dublin Distance Fiesta is the largest distance meet in the United States. 2018 marked a year of record attendance and participation, with 101 schools attending, 2334 students athletes entered, and 3178 event entries.

 

Student volunteers helped out with set-up, passing out prizes, cheering on other runners, and clean-up.

 

The Dublin Distance Fiesta was an all-day event, with athletes arriving at the Dublin High campus as early as 6 am, and leaving as late as 10pm. Athletes from Dublin High both volunteered and competed, working volunteer shifts throughout the day in between their events. Events ranged from the shortest, at 800 meters to the longer 3200 meters and Distance Medley Relay.

Senior Adrian Schroeder placed 5th in the Men’s Varsity 3200 meter race with a time of 9:14.40, a personal record. Senior Gaurav Phanse was not far behind with the time of 9:20.09, placing 10th in the same event, Junior Loic Scomparin came in at 12th place behind Phanse at 9:22.09, also a personal record.

In the Distance Medley Relay, an event consisting of the 400m, 800m, 1200m and 1600m runs, Dublin High did well in both the men’s and women’s DMR’s. The women’s team consisting of, senior Angela Huang, freshman Isela Ochoa, senior Jamie Bouchard, and senior Nicole Chen placed 15th overall, with a time of 13:40.57.The men’s team consisting of senior Trevor Chapman, senior Troy Barcenas, senior Brian Patterson, and sophomore Gabriel Schroeder placed 18th with a time of 11:24.55.
