The DHS cross country team has had an outstanding season this year. The team recently ran in the EBAL Championships, in which they won the Boys Frosh/Soph and Boys Varsity divisions in the 3 mile course at Shadowcliff Regional Park, Pleasanton.

This season, our cross country team has participated in 8 official meets: Ed Sias Invitational, Woodbridge Invitational (top varsity boys only), Clovis Invitational, Farmers Invitational, Scott Bauhs Invitational, Mariner Invitational, and the EBAL Championship. Dublin High has excelled in all of these meets and won at least once in nearly all of them. Here are some of the main highlights from the meets:

EBAL Championship — November 4, 2017

The East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Championships was a race with high tensions and competition throughout the day. The meet was split into 3 main divisions: Frosh/Soph, Junior Varsity, and Varsity divisions, with each level further separated by gender. In the Varsity Boy’s division, Dublin finished in 1st place, with senior Adrian Schroeder winning 1st place with a time of 15:13. Junior Loic Scomparin and senior Gaurav Phanse followed in 3rd and 8th place with times of 15:28 and 15:47, respectively. Freshman Surya Marimuthu came in at 15th place with the time of 16:11.  In the Junior Varsity Boy’s division, Dublin was ranked 2nd out of participating schools. Senior Trevor Chapman came in at 4th place with 16:34 and Robin Bajwa (9th), Brian Patterson (10th), Stanley Jiang (14th), and Jhonatan Solis (15th) finished with times of 17:07, 17:12, 17:29, and 17:45, respectively. In the Frosh/Soph division, Dublin was also ranked 1st. Sophomore Kyle Elias led the race with the time of 16:29, followed by sophomore Ishaan Jain, finishing with 16:43. Sebastian Munoz Arroyo (10), Vince Tan (11), Darren Furtado (12), and Luke Wu (13) all finished with times of  17:27, 17:28, 17:38, and 17:40, respectively. The Dublin Cross Country team faced serious competition on the boys and girls races, and are proud to have done so well in spite of several injured and sick runners who weren’t at their top shape at the time of the meet.

Woodbridge Invitational (Top Varsity Boys)

Woodbridge Championships was a major cross country race featuring an array of the best teams in the nation. Dublin High was one of the few teams that dominated the race, finishing at 3rd place in the 3 Miles Doug Speck’s Boys Sweepstakes, beating 3 nationally ranked teams in the process. Senior Adrian Schroeder finished at 4th place with an astonishing time of 14:09. Loic Scomparin and Christopher-Middleton Pearson finished in 23rd and 31st place, with the impressive times of 14:39 and 14:43, respectively. Losing a shoe during the race did nothing to stop senior Gaurav Phanse from running as he finished with a time of 14:58. Junior Hunter Lampi, junior Kyle Morrison, and senior Trevor Chapman also finished strong with the times of 15:19, 15:50, and 15:56, respectively. The Dublin Shield asked the senior members of XC (Cross Country) to talk about how they feel about the team as the end of the season is closing in.

“So far, we have achieved great success at all of our levels: Varsity, JV [Junior Varsity], and Frosh/Soph,” said senior Gaurav Phanse. “We’ve had a historic season so far, because now we are the fastest team in the history of Northern California. We performed well at EBAL Championships, and now we’re looking forward to doing greater things at NCS [North Coast Section] and States.”

“It was a very fun season bonding with the team and becoming a family on this magical journey that is Cross Country,” added senior Adrian Schroeder dramatically, the individual champion in the Varsity Boys EBAL Champs division.

“For me, being at the back end of the Varsity team, I am not sure if I will be running at states,” said senior Trevor Chapman. “But if I were to, being able to finally run at states will be such a great honor. If I’m not running, it would be so amazing to witness Dublin High finally qualify for NXN (Nike Cross Nationals).”
