The St. Patrick’s Day Festivities
Here in Dublin, California, the city celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with numerous festivities throughout the whole St. Patrick’s weekend to bring the community together while having a good time. St. Patrick’s Day has always been a well-celebrated event in Dublin, and this year was no exception. Throughout the whole weekend, the city of Dublin was buzzing with activities for people of all ages.
Hosted by the Dublin Sister City Association, the St. Patrick’s Day festivities kicked off with the Green and White Gala on March 13. The Gala took place at the Shannon Community Center, and citizens were invited to attend a fun night of food, dancing, and live music.
Following the Gala, a Pancake Breakfast was hosted the next day by the Alameda County Firefighters. Families joined Local 55 at Fire Station No. 16 for a delicious breakfast filled with green pancakes and more.
The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade hosted by Dublin’s Lion Club then proceeded on March 14. From Dublin High’s very own Irish Guard to local shops such as Yogurtland, groups and organization throughout the city proudly marched down the streets to promote and showcase their pride in their organizations. The parade featured Dublin citizens of all ages on horses, trucks, colorful floats, and more. From bagpipers to gymnasts, numerous individuals joined together to participate in this annual parade.
“The parade is a great way to be a part of Dublin’s tradition each year,” DHS student, Janette Kim said. “It’s really amazing to see the whole community come together.”
On the morning of March 15, the Shamrock 5K Fun Run & Walk took place for citizens of all ages to attend. This 5K course began on Dublin Boulevard and ended at the Civic Center, where the carnival is located. The 5K Fun Run & Walk was hosted by the city as a way to promote lifelong fitness amongst its citizens. People of all ages, and even dogs, were invited to join this certified course as a way to encourage citizens to maintain active lifestyles.
However, the most anticipated St. Patrick’s day event was perhaps the annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival held at the Dublin Civic Center.
“I think the festival is the best part of the St. Patrick’s tradition,” Kim said. “You really get to see what goes around in the community while having a fun time.”
The 2-day carnival on March 14 and 15 featured a variety of vendors and performances. From the Irish Marketplace to the Crafts & Merchants stands, the carnival offered festival goers a variety of foods and activities to partake in while enjoying live performances by groups such as The Blue Yonders and the McBride School of Dance.
With the wide variety of activities, there was something for the whole family to do during the whole weekend. These festivities were amazing ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with friends and family while meeting new people from around the community as well. No matter the age or gender, these St. Patrick’s Day festivities were great ways to showcase Dublin pride while having a good time.
